In the recent years, with the development of the environmental protection careers, the environmental management of the hazardous waste and the pollution prevention and control arising from them have already become the focal subjects and a difficult point of environmental protection in China .

In order to improve the level of environmental management and treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes and ensure the environmental security, the international conference on management, policy, treatment and disposal technology of hazardous wastes was held on May 31st - June 1st, 2005, in Beijing, by the support from State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA). This important event was co-organised by Tsinghua University , Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Sino-Japan Friendship Centre for Environmental Protection and Cleanaway Group, with the secretariat support from Asia-Pacific Regional Centre for Hazardous Waste Management Training and Technology Transfer and China National Centre for Hazardous Waste Management Training and Technology Transfer (Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Tsinghua University ).
