Regional Workshop on Promotion of Technical Assistance and Technology Transfer in Asia and the Pacific

The Regional Workshop on Promotion of Technical Assistance and Technology Transfer in Asia and the Pacific was held in Beijing, China in the afternoon of October 30, 2014. Totally 21 participants, including 4 delegates from Cambodia, Nepal, Mongolia, and Micronesia, 11 delegates from industry and the academic circles, and 6 delegates from Pacific Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Joint Implementation of the Basel and Waigani Conventions in the South Pacific Region (SPREP) and Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC Beijing) attended the meeting.

In line with the theme of “Promotion of investment and technology communication”, the workshop aimed to facilitate communication between different Parties and enterprises in Asia and the Pacific region, and promote the regional technical assistance and technology transfer.

  

During the workshop, representative from BCRC Beijing introduced the background, workplan, and activities of Platform on Technical Assistance and Technology Transfer of Chemical and Hazardous Wastes Management and Disposal. After that, heated discussions of demand and supply information on technology/facility/service related to waste and chemical management and disposal, investment/sale/technology transfer/service delivery climate, protection measures, and successful cases, possible participation and return form of infrastructure construction in the area of environment, as well as measures to promote technical assistance and technology transfer in Asia and the Pacific was organized. Through the discussion, delegates from regional parties and enterprises reached a consensus on strengthening information exchange, organizing study tour and industrial tourism, improving policies and regulations, and carrying out investment environment assessment on the base of Platform on Technical Assistance and Technology Transfer of Chemical and Hazardous Wastes Management and Disposal.

The workshop was held during the 9th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology, under the framework of “Study on track analysis of Stockholm Convention dynamic and development tendency of POPs”, which funded by Ministry of Environmental Protection, China. The workshop promoted the information exchange between the regional parties and enterprises, and laid a good foundation for the cooperation between them and the regional technical assistance and technology transfer.

 

The Platform on Technical Assistance and Technology Transfer of Chemical and Hazardous Wastes Management and Disposal was initiates and establishes by BCRC Beijing, aims to establish relationship between different countries and enterprises, and promote region technical assistance and technology transfer in Asia and the Pacific.
