The 13th International Conference on Solid Waste Management and Technology Opened in Beijing
   On March 22, 2018, the 13th International Conference on Solid Waste Management and Technology was grandly opened at Xijiao Hotel, Beijing. About 500 delegates from 34 countries and regions around the world attended the conference.
   The conference was sponsored by Tsinghua University, Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center of Ministry of Ecology&Environment of the PRC, UNEP, and Stockholm Convention Regional Center for Capacity-Building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific , and organized by Basel Convention Coordinating Center for Asia and the Pacific,Soil and Solid Waste Research Institute of Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, Macao Environment Research Institute of Macao University of Science and Technology.
Jinhui Li, executive director of the Basel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific ,presided over the opening ceremony of the conference. Such people gave inaugural addresses, among whom are Qiwen Qiu, former director of Soil Environmental Management Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and director of the Basel Convention Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific ; Delegate Ruihe Tu , Deputy Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions& Representative of the UNEP China , and Hualong Hu, deputy director of the Solid Waste Management and Technology Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
    The meeting lasted 3 days and ended on the evening of March 24. A total of more than 110 domestic and foreign government leaders, experts and scholars made reports on such issues as hazardous waste, e-waste, domestic waste, biomass management, treatment and disposal technologies.

A total of more than 110 domestic and foreign government officials, experts and scholars will deliver keynote speeches on such issues as hazardous waste, e-waste, domestic waste, biomass management and treatment and disposal technologies.
    Relying on this international conference, a total of 12 sub-forums and salons as well as 117 symposiums were held, such as National Recycling Economics Institute Center Leader Forum, 2nd Regional Chemical Forum, Asia and the Pacific Regional Symposium on Synergistic Efficiency of Chemicals and Wastes IV Convention and 7th Environmental Research Conference of the East Asian Research University Association: Resources Flow and Its Environmental Impact, UNEP-Tsinghua University Student Forum, Sustainable City Development and Waste Management, and Social Sources Conference on Hazardous Waste Legal Responsibility, the National Social Science Foundation's Major Project Study on the Definition and Governance Mechanism of Environmental Hazardous Waste Environmental Responsibilities, E-waste Recycling and Pollution Control, Resource Utilization and Management of Organic Waste, and Circular Economy - Angels or Devil Sharon. In addition, the conference also organized a site visit to the harmless disposal of hazardous wastes, e-waste dismantling treatment enterprises and landfills.What’s more, depending on this international conference, UNEP-Tsinghua Univ. also organized the “One Belt and One Road” project – Advanced Workshop on Urban Minerals and Pollution Prevention and Control, and the National Conference on the Prevention and Control of Hazardous Waste Risks and the Annual Meeting of the Solid Waste Treatment and Utilization .
    Since its inception for the first time in 2005, the International Conference has been adhering to the purpose of creating an easy and free academic exchange platform and is dedicated to building scientific ideas and demonstrating advanced experience for experts and scholars in the research of solid waste management and disposal technologies at home and abroad. After 10 years of development, the international conference has been increasingly recognized internationally and has played an increasingly important role in academic exchanges in the field of solid waste.
