The 2nd Basel Forum in Asia-Pacific Region on Promotion of Basel Convention Implementation
The 2nd Basel Forum in Asia-Pacific Region on Promotion of Basel Convention Implementation was held in Beijing, China, and organized by Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC Beijing) on October 30, 2014. Totally 21 participants, including delegates from 7 different Asian countries-- Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Mongolia, Nepal, Malaysia, and Micronesia, and delegates from World Custom Organization attended the meeting.

Basel Forum in Asia-Pacific Region on Promotion of Basel Convention Implementation was initiated by BCRC Beijing, Korea Basel Forum and National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan after deep consultation. The aim of the forum was to provide one authoritative information exchange platform on Hazardous Waste and E-waste management for representative agencies of Asia-Pacific Region states.

In the forum, representatives reported and exchanged current situation of the Basel Convention implementation, especially the legal system on transboundary movement management of e-waste at national level, and the information on illegal traffic status and cases. After a heated discussion, representatives unanimously affirm the importance of Basel Forum in Asia-Pacific Region to be a platform of information sharing among each Asian counties and World Custom Organization in order to research and solve the situation of e-waste disposal.

The meeting will be held once a year, relating to decision of Basel convention, regulations of parties, advanced research on waste management and disposal, and other common concerned issues. The forum was 2nd face-to-face meeting held back to back with ICWMT 9 in Beijing. Basel Forum in Asia-Pacific Region develop new ways of cooperation and information sharing on waste management for unofficial institutions, and laid a foundation to promote the implementation of Basel convention both in regional and national level.
