The American Oil
Chemists’ Society (AOCS) is a premier international science and business society
on fats, oils, surfactants, and related materials. The AOCS China Section was established
in April 2016, and has several mission objectives, including 1) to promote
information exchange, collaboration and partnership between Chinese and global
fats, oils and related industries, 2) to bring together professionals in the
China geographical region, 3) to support friendship and professional growth of
its members, and 4) to ensure high standards, superior quality, safety and
value-added applications of fats, oils, proteins and related-materials. The
first AOCS China Section Conference was successfully held in Wuxi, China,
November 10-12, 2017, with about 300 participants.
The 2nd AOCS China
Section Conference is held in Zhujiang (Pearl River) Hotel, Guangzhou (Canton),
China, November 8-10, 2019. Guangzhou is a city in Southern China, not far from
Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and many South Asian countries. This special two-day
conference features half-day plenary sessions that will cover raw material
production and supply; marketing trends and consumer perceptions; special
oilseed crops and lipids; health and nutrition; and advanced processing. A full
day of technical sessions will cover various topics, including analytics, quality,
lipid oxidation, structured lipids, microencapsulation, biocatalysis, new
technology, processing, edible and industrial applications, health and
nutrition, proteins and peptides, gels as delivery systems, and surfactants. The
last half day is set for site visits to two nearby universities, South China
University of Technology and Jinan University.
In addition to the
2 plenary and 12 technical sessions, the conference will host a sunrise session
on professional development for young scientists and students. Several seasoned
professionals will share their personal experiences on how to get most out of a
scientific society, how to get your manuscripts published in a prestigious
journal, how to advance one’s career in a corporate environment, and how to
make professional networks.
Preconference
program includes a short course on advanced technologies in oilseed processing,
edible oil refining and oil modification. The short course is organized by
Ignace Debruyne of ID&A, Belgium and Sefa Koseoglu of Bioactives World, USA.
This will be their 22nd short course on the subject. For details, please
see http://www.smartshortcourses.com/oilprocess22/program.html
The conference
also offers AOCS Best Presentation Award. The award will be selected by the
conference academic committee through on-site voting and presented at the gala
dinner on the night of November 9.
